I was up in the mountains so didn't see much of the towns.
I was up in the mountains so didn't see much of the towns. I got the little train up from Stary Smokoviec and went for shopping in Strbske Pleso. Neither town appeals to me but Popradske Pleso is gorgeous. One of my favourite places in the Tatras.

Every morning, I woke up to breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains, which were often shrouded in mist, creating an ethereal atmosphere. The fresh air and cool temperatures made hiking and outdoor activities a real treat.

A beautiful village at the foot of the Tatras by a beautiful lake. In the vicinity of the ski slope, many trails for walking and cycling. There are several hotels, restaurants and shops by the lake. An ideal place for a few-day trip, both in winter and summer.

Great trails, both half-day or full day, from moderate to slightly challenging (especially for anyone with mobility issues). Skok waterfall trail is terrific. Jamske Pleso trail is flatter and less rough, but we did see a common viper on the trail and fresh bear poo!
The trail around Strbske Pleso lake itself is very enjoyable and scenic.
Furkotka restaurant (opposite Hotel Toliar) and Koliba Patria restaurant overlooking the lake we're terrific value and lovely food. Lary Fary cafe was a nice midday stop-off too, lovely hot chocolate and tea.

Strbske pleso itself is too touristy and developed.
Strbske pleso itself is too touristy and developed. The real value of this location is all the hiking that's possible in the area. The nature here is stunning. An easy one hour hike will take you to another lake called Popradske pleso and a further 90 minute hike (a bit more difficult) from there will take you to the largest lake Velke Hincovo pleso. That area is beautiful. It looks like something from The Lord of the Rings. There is also a great restaurant in Strbske pleso called Furkotka with great food and service.
This was our second stay. Deluxe apartments are spacy, well equipped, with nice view facing Solisko (although both rooms we stayed in (405 and 303) are facing the same direction, 405 has a slightly better view - especially from the bed where you see these beautiful mountains right when you open your eyes). Reception staff was very helpful and I really appreciate their attitude when we raised very specific parking requirements (lowered car). Great intimate wellness with 3 types of sauna and hot tube (paid extra).
The cleanliness, the fact that this place uses ecological products for bathroom and kitchen and separates the trash, plastic paper glass etc. The room was super cozy and sparkling clean. The furniture new and it smelled like fresh wood. We felt like home. And we loved the day room on the top floor with comfy couches and a ping pong table. Great coffee machine up there and cold drinks in the day room fridge. Overall fantastic experience. Totally recommend. Better than the big and expensive hotels in my opinion.
The vila provides all the things you need for a trip to the mountains, and some useful things I didn't expect. For example, the larder of food donated by previous guests, and the glue on hand for fixing weather-beaten footwear. There is obviously a lot of thought that has gone in to the accommodation, which makes it feel very welcoming despite being basic. The host was very helpful advising on how best to explore the area. For the price, I don't think it can be beaten
The food was great, there was a lot of variety and it was tasty. Location was excellent, however at the hotel the parking was little limited. Fortunately there is a big parking lot right across from the hotel. We really enjoyed staying at the hotel with children because there were games. Especially mrs Solomon at the reception was very friendly and pleasant. We would come back again. The apartment was super spacious and comfortable.
Very good hotel at an excellent location - it was pleasure to come back after several visits in my childhood in the 1980s. Some parts are still exist from that era, but it's not a problem, better an advantage. Deluxe rooms are modern and spacious with breathtaking view. Breakfast was excellent, you can choose a daily buffet-dinner daily if you want. The wellness section is very comfortable. My favourite hotel in the High-Tatras.
we didn't took the breakfast in the hotel as this apartment has a fully functional kitchen despite it's size is very practical and gives all you need. Terrace is small but gives enough room for 2 chairs and a table to have breakfast, dinner or a snack while you can admire the view or during the night the entire sky as nothing blocks the view - an entire panorama of night sky
BEST value stay compared to the other top of the mountain accommodations in Slovakia.
Cozy and pretty comfortable room considering that you stay in the cottage actually.
Great beer, and yummy tomato soup.
The morning views are priceless! Also you get out of the cottage and you can ski down the hill right away!
Very friendly hosts who ensure that you have an excellent stay. I loved the location of the property, the views from my balcony and the tranquility that was there. It is pretty close to public transport stops that can get you transport to places like Strbske Pleso.

Hotel restaurant was amazing, it looks great, food was fantastic, staff was very friendly and helpful. Also, the hotel location was great, with a 5-minute walk to the train station. Hotel was clean, bed was very comfortable with a hard mattress.
The appartment is brand new, super clean and fully staffed. Smooth chech in & check out. The hotel has nice location, a lot of hiking trails available. Amazing views from the terrace. LOVE Tatra mountains and definitely come back.
Strbske Pleso resort was an amazing place and we stayed in the apartment that has everything you need. It's big, spacious, fully furnished, clean and nicest host. We love the place and I highly recommend it 👌 👏
Great location within Panorama hotel, very good facilities (parking, fully equipped kithenette), big apartment , great view, great value, good communication with owner.
This is a great apartment in the small ski village of Štrbské Pleso. We enjoyed our stay here. It’s very centrally located and the apartment is well furnished.
